The plateau of Pollara, with its small scattered houses, is a natural amphitheatre of volcanic origin. It is all that remains of the largest and oldest crater in the islands, with a diameter of more than 1 Km. A fertile sunny hollow bordered by Monte Porri.
The sense of serenity and beauty of Pollara also affected Massimo Troisi who made his last film, Il Postino, here.
The countryside is full of broom, heather and caper flowers.

Access to the beach of Pollara is currently banned.
The beach is reached by descending a staircase, which leads to " Balate " a tiny fishing village built into the rock.

"Il casale... si affaccia ad ovest sul mare a perdita d'occhio facendo scorgere le splendide sagome delle isole di Alicudi e Filicudi.!"
